Menstrual Hygiene Awareness

The YWCA of Bangladesh is running a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Project to support 700 young women and girls (ages 11–30) across Gopalgonj, Khulna, Jashore, Savar, Birisiri, Dinajpur, and Khagrachari. Each participant receives a Dignity Kit that includes sanitary napkins, soap, antiseptic liquid, and awareness materials on menstrual hygiene.

What We Do

  • Distribute dignity kits to ensure safe and hygienic menstrual practices.
  • Organize small group sessions on menstrual health, personal hygiene, breast cancer prevention, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), early marriage, gender-based violence, and mental health.
  • Engage YWCA youth volunteers, school teachers, and health workers to guide and support participants.
  • Work with local government leaders who endorse and encourage the initiative.

Impact

  • Young women and girls become more aware of menstrual health and their rights.
  • Participants feel confident to manage their periods safely and hygienically.
  • A sanitary napkin vending machine is set up in a school, helping girls continue their education without interruption and reducing absenteeism.
  • The initiative empowers students to feel more comfortable and confident in managing their period safely and hygienically.
  • Stronger trust grows between YWCA and communities, as we stand beside women and girls in their daily challenges.

Through this initiative, YWCA empowers young women to embrace safe menstrual practices and inspires them to live with dignity and confidence.

This project supports these selected girls and women to secure their menstrual hygiene for a period of time by giving the Dignity Kit support and inspires them to manage their menstrual period safely, hygienically and with confidence. The sessions inspires them to be aware of menstrual health, Sexual and reproductive health and gender violence-related issues. This also helps to strengthen the bonding between YWCA and its beneficiaries. People’s confidence in YWCA is enhanced because YWCA is always beside them, especially in times of crisis.
